Trace Elements and Arsenic Speciation of Field and Market Rice Samples in contrasting Agro-climatic Zones in Sri Lanka

Abstract Rice is a major source for micro-elements the Sri Lankan population, across all agro-climatic zones. This current study was conducted to investigate variation of metal(loid)s and As speciation in rice grains collected from wet, intermediate dry zones Lanka. Field (brown rice) market (polished samples were analysed total elemental profile using ICP-MS IC-ICP-MS, respectively. As, Cd, Co, Fe, Mn, Mo, Rb, Se, Sr Zn field grain varied climatic Highest median Cu, P, Se wet zone; Mn zone reported. (As, 0.3%; 1%) 0%; 3%) exceeded maximum permissible levels Cd. However, higher concentrations both fields, 18% 21% market, 7% 38% recommended Cd infant food according EU regulations. The high per capita consumption chronic exposure through may cause adverse effects on children adults.
